CORONAVIRUS

The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

 

The risk to the general public is moderate. If you have arrived back to the UK from mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau within 14 days, follow the specific advice for returning travellers.

 

Anyone who has travelled to China or places listed above in the last 14 days and develops symptoms of cough or fever or shortness of breath, should immediately:

 

  • Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu
  • Call NHS 111 to inform them of your recent travel to the country

Like the common cold, coronavirus infection usually occurs through close contact with a person with novel coronavirus via cough and sneezes or hand contact. A person can also be infected by touching contaminated surfaces if they do not wash their hands.

 

The risk of being in close contact with a person with coronavirus or contaminated surfaces is very low at the current time, as members of the public who have visited Wuhan, Hubei province, China are currently in isolation.

 

Testing of suspected coronavirus cases is carried out in line with strict regulations. This means that suspected cases are kept in isolation, away from public areas of the hospital and returned home also in isolation. Any equipment that come into contact with suspected cases are thoroughly cleaned as appropriate. Specific guidance has also been shared with NHS staff to help safeguard them and others.  Patients can be reassured that their safety is a top priority, and are encouraged to attend all appointments as usual.

 

Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:

 

  • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

Improved access

Changes to Extended Access to General Practice services in Surrey Heath

As part of a national initiative, local GP practices are working together to offer patients better access to GP appointments in Surrey Heath. As well as some local GP practices offering in-house extended hours for their patients, Surrey Heath Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has commissioned providers to offer a range of additional appointments with our local GPs, Nurses and Health Care assistants, providing greater appointment availability and flexibility for people.

The service commissioned by the CCG means that people living in Surrey Heath can access additional appointments outside of normal practice hours. People must be registered with a GP surgery locally to qualify, and appointments can only be made in advance through their own GP practices. Please note the service cannot accept walk-in patients.

If urgent care is required, please call NHS111 for advice.

Additional weekend appointments will be available at designated practices throughout Surrey Heath. These appointments are for routine general practice issues only and not for emergency care. The location will alternate each week and Sunday appointments will be hosted at North Hampshire Urgent Care centre at Frimley Park Hospital. Patients will be reminded of the location of their appointment at the time of making a booking.

To arrange an appointment, speak to your practice receptionist. Alternatively, the telephone number for booking on a Saturday or Sunday (for on the day appointments) is 01276 949999. Please note this will not be in use any other days.

EXTENDED OPENING TIMES

The surgery is committed to providing extra staff and resources for our patients by opening at the Park Road site from 8am - 8pm Monday to Friday (the 7.30am clinics on a Tuesday and Thursday also remain). In view of these extended hours we would encourage patients to contact the surgery in the first instance before visiting the A&E department at Frimley Park Hospital.

Making an Appointment Online

You can now book and cancel doctor’s appointments online. This service, is available through Patient Access

It's very important that only genuine patients are granted internet access. The best way we can ensure this is to issue patients with a Registration Letter, which you must collect in person from your practice. You cannot book appointments online without one.

Ordering your Prescription Online

You can now submit a request for your Repeat Medication. This service, which is available through Patient Access  allows you to view all the items in your repeat medication list and select the ones you wish to request.
